Social Focus

Life Focus Center’s Social Focus is a series of social & recreational program designed for disabled individuals to develop social skills, develop and maintain friendships and access the community, as well as respite for the primary care family.  Three distinct program models have been designed.  In each model, the participants design and create the monthly activity schedules with the assistance of staff.  All component names and group identifications are the creation of the participants, voted and adopted at their monthly meeting.  As Life Focus Center can only commit transportation within a limited radius, participants outside the transport radius will need to explore options that include family or house management and the RIDE.

To ensure that all participants’ beliefs/customs/needs are being met, we ask that you let us know what days that is important to the individual so we may celebrate cultural events.

Teeni-Boppers
Teeni-Boppers provide activities for those participants who wish for a faster paced social and recreational program.  In this model are included swimming, movies, bowling, holiday parties, visits to farms for fruit picking or local museums such as the Science Museum, Aquarium, etc.  On the quieter side are board game competitions, computer games, arts & crafts, dance lessons and piano sing-a-longs, etc.  Integrated into the program structure is a well-being nutritional and exercise component, individuals have the opportunity to work out twice weekly under the direction of an instructor at a local gym.

Hot Wheels
Hot Wheels provides activities for people with disabilities who are confined to wheelchairs.  This model provides for a full range of social and personal choice activities.  Hot Wheels have created their own restaurant and show tour, sporting event, dances, computer activities, shopping sprees and special events.
